    Leavenworth County
    is situated in Northeast Kansas. The county
    seat and most populous city is Leavenworth.

    Leavenworth County was created on August 30, 1866 from
    free territory and one of the 33 counties which were formed by the first
    territorial government. Leavenworth
    is named after Henry Leavenworth, an officer in the War of 1812.

    Leavenworth is a community of
    roughly 35,000 residents situated in the rolling hills of northeastern Kansas on the Missouri River.
    Leavenworth is on the outer edge of the Kansas City metro area and is the home of Army’s Fort Veterans
    Affairs Medical
    Center, the County’s Federal
    Penitentiary, Saint Mary College
    and the Dwight D. Eisenhower Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

    Leavenworth is a small town, historic
    ambiance with easy access to the amenities of a larger city. Downtown Leavenworth still
    contains many buildings that were in the early 1900’s and vintage properties
    are scattered throughout the community.

    Leavenworth became the first city in Kansas when it was established in 1854. The
    city served as the springboard for the settlement of the rest of the state and
    the support base for the opening of the West. As Leavenworth develops, businesses and
    factories thrived and stately homes were constructed to house the families
    whose wealth grew as the city grew. Leavenworth
    was the industrial center of Kansas.
    The City possesses a historic wayside walking and driving tour honoring the
    notable events and locations in the community.

    Taylor who studied both law and medicine. Taylor

    Tonganoxie is a welcoming little city
    situated in Leavenworth County, in northeast Kansas,

    Tonganoxie was named after a Delaware
    Indian, Chief Tonganoxie. The Chief Tonganoxie Lodge, which was built in 1835,
    was a stop over for mail and passengers traveling through the area. Eventually
    the Government took over the land and sold it to the Union Pacific Railroad.

    Tonganoxie was named in honor of
    Delaware Indian, Chief Tonganoxie. The Chief Tonganoxie Lodge which was
    constructed in 1935 and serve as a stop over for mail and passengers roving
    through the area.  In the long run, the
    Government took over the land and sold it to the Union Pacific Railroad.

    Tourists can visit Tonganoxie and
    drive down the flourishing, historic main street will find an improvement,
    progressed community with a firm sense of small-town pride- bounded by
    beautiful countryside.

    Basehor, Kansas,

    , was founded in
    1889 by Ephraim Basehor and his brother Reuben. They both were of Pennsylvania
    Dutch descent and came to Kansas
    in 1854. After living in Lawrence
    for a time, Ephraim began working as a hired hand for an area farmer. He
    eventually bought the farm and other land holdings in the area.

    The year 1889 marks the real beginning of the town of Basehor. The City has
    become known for its lovely residential neighborhoods, beautiful park and
    excellent schools. Over the past several years, the City has benefited from the
    addition of retail and office developments. With its convenient location to two
    major interstates and its small town atmosphere, Basehor will continue to grow

    The community was termed for the linden trees growing here. Some
    people perceive that Linwood got its name because of Senator Wiliam A. Harris’ admiration
    for the linwood trees. Kansas Historical Collections documented that the town
    of Stranger has
    its name modified to Linwood by Senator Harris because of his great appreciation
    for the linwood trees that were plentiful in the vicinity of Stranger Creek.

    Linwood Kansas is a small, rural

    did not used to be called Linwood. The early name was Journeycake, after
    Charles Journeycake who was the last Delaware
    chief. The old Linwood

    town but there were so many Linwood floods that forced inhabitants to move out

    few churches, government and community buildings and a gas station. Most infrastructures
