Gardner is named after Governor Gardner of Massachusetts. Roughly all of the early dwellers were Free State Men and one of the first Free State conventions in the country happened in Gardner in 1858.
The city of Gardner commemorates its 150th Birthday – Gardner’s Sesquicentennial! in 2007. The year long celebration culminated with the Festival on the Trails. It was a huge success for the residents of Gardner and many wonderful volunteers working together to make things possible.
